Cebu City

Waterfront Hotel-Lahug
02.26.2009-02.28.2009

We flew to Cebu via Cebu Pacific twelve days after we officially tied our knots. =)We had our stay at the Waterfront Hotel, Lahug, for two great nights. This was my second time in Cebu and the first time for my wife but just my first time to stay at WF. The hotel was such a surprise knowing that it is situated at a very naive location in the city. With its elegant structure comparable to a palace outside and an elegant lobby inside, we could say that this is one of the better hotels in the country. Because of almost 3 hours delayed flight from NAIA terminal 3 that wasted our morning, we decided to rest for awhile in the afternoon at our room "914".

We were fortunate during our first night to be accompanied by my former Dean in Dominican College, Dr. Rhoel "DJ" Dejano, who happens to be the co-owner and well-known bartender of one of the famous bar at Mango Square, the Numero Doce. He prepared for us a very smooth yet moderately strong cocktail called "Blue Kamikaze" and their best selling Sisig and Calamares.

The following day, we had the chance to visit the very old and historic Basilica Minore del Sto. Nino and of course just few walks away from it, The Magellan's Cross. We had short yet solemn visit at the cathedral appreciating its towering facade and classical architecture where we offered prayers for ourselves to be guided in our new life, say some prayers for our loved ones and friends, and ever thanking our blessings. We could say that Cebuanos are really devoted Catholics because with our short stint there, the basilica never got empty. We also observed that all devotees are waiving their hands as a sign of Hello and Goodbye to Senior Sto. Nino each time they arrive and leave the church.

On our second night, we didn't realize until after we had our lunch at WF that David Pomeranz will hold his concert that night. It was a benefit-concert entitled "In Our Hands" for the welfare of children born with cleft lip/palate for them to raise funds for the operation of hundreds of our less fortunate children. Neither Maanne nor I is a David-fan but we love some of his songs like Born for You and On this Day. That night I realized how lucky we were to witness the sincerity of David to help our countrymen change their lives through this project as well as witnessed a world-class performance. Although he is not Filipino, what he did is more than patriotism and true love to our country. We did enjoy the concert and had a good night sleep. :-)
